The role of the Group

LFIG Regeneration Group is a Study Group within the Labour Finance & Industry Group. Set up at end 2003, LFIG Regeneration Group’s members include leading academics, property sector professionals and funding advisors, national and local politicians, and regeneration agency senior managers.

The Regeneration Group’s aim is to assist the Labour Government in developing and implementing regeneration policies that increase the wealth of the nation and its citizens. Within this aim, its objectives are to:

  • promote a step change in regeneration policies
  • encourage a debate as to how economic imbalances can be addressed through restructuring

The Regeneration Group welcomes new members.

Current focus

May 2006 saw the Group release the report, “Effective Regeneration Action: Finance and Regeneration”, at a House of Commons launch attended by three Ministers and leading figures in the UK property and regeneration sectors.

2005-06 programme agenda

2005-06 saw the Group holding extensive monthly evidence-based hearings on the UK regeneration sector and its future. Topics included the role of developers, risk understanding by local authorities, new localism, Market Renewal Pathfinder lessons, institutional investment, and master planning. Prominent speakers included Sylvie Pierce (CEO Capital & Provident Regeneration), Ralph Luck and John Ladd (BURA), Roy Irwin (Audit Commission), Phil Clark (Investment Property Forum and Morley FM), and Ian Charie (WS Atkins).
